This hasn’t been an easy decision, because deep down, I felt I wasn’t ready to let it go just yet.The last six months of my career have been incredibly tough. Missing out on the Olympics by just one point, along with everything that came with it, really took a toll on me. During that period, I achieved many personal victories, but it was extremely challenging. Even so, I chose not to give up, to put myself out there again, and to give 100 percent to my sport.Unfortunately, another blow came on top of that: our federation has significantly less financial resources available due to the stop of the funding of our National Olympic Committee. This means that no changes are on the horizon, and the opportunities will remain very limited. I know that, under these circumstances, I won’t be able to become the best version of myself. That’s why I’ve decided to end my professional career.I never thought I could achieve so much in this sport. I’ve competed in all the major tournaments and celebrated amazing victories. But the journey itself was the most beautiful part—experiencing everything with my friends and family made it unique and unforgettable. For that, I’m incredibly grateful.I also want to thank my sponsors for their years of support. @yonex_badminton and @definanseurs , it’s been an honor to work with you.Does this mean it’s over for me? Not entirely. I’m still training daily to maintain a good level for competitions, and I’ll definitely keep doing that. Who knows what the future holds? For now, I’m still searching for who I am as a person—Mark Caljouw.Thank you for everything❤️ MC #retirement #done #painfull #thankful #badminton #thanks #goodbye @bwf.official @badmintonnld @badminton_europe
